Aksel Rønning Trio is a jazz trio based in Oslo, Norway, formed in 2019. The band consists of saxophonist Aksel Rønning, bassist Eskild Okkenhaug, and drummer August Glännestrand. Their music has been described as a meeting point between Scandinavian jazz traditions and modern improvisational freedom. Drawing comparisons to Jan Garbarek Trio and Petter Eldh, they also appeal to fans of Sam Gendel and Chris Speed, blending atmospheric melodies with intricate rhythms and dynamic interplay.
ACCIDENTS is the trio’s most ambitious recording project to date. The self-produced album contains elements of jazz, improvisation, hip-hop, Thai folk music, Northern Norwegian “lofotbrev,” and vulnerable ballads. The title ACCIDENTS is inspired by the unexpected in musical interplay—when “accidents” shape improvisations and heighten the awareness of the band members. The trio’s interplay has largely been influenced by this approach: embracing uncertainty and owning the unexpected moments that occur in the music. This is encapsulated in the hour-long album ACCIDENTS.
